Garden Gloves

More Information

Let’s talk Gloves!
Some of use them, some of us refuse them. I do love to get my hands dirty but there are certain times of the year that the right pair of garden gloves is a must for me! Early Spring the soil is to cold for bare hands often to mucky and muddy. Rose pruning – trust me, I have spent many a times pruning without gloves and come out looking like I have been to battle!    Gloves are a must for me when raking or shoveling for long periods of time, or suffer with blisters. HOT PEPPERS need I say more? you would think I would remember this one by now! I have had many incidents with burning fingers and other parts of my body from forgetting to slip on a simple pair of latex type gloves. For the most part I’ve always got dirt on my hands and I love it!

You can use what ever type of gloves your heart desires, there is sure to be a pair that suites your eye and budget.
Here is the lowdown:
Gloves with a plastic or wax coating at the fingertips and the palm with a breathable fabric over the back of the hand are an all around excellent choice. You’ll be able to work in wet dirt with dry, clean hands and the gloves will breathe so your hands won’t get too hot. These are a great all purpose glove for almost any backyard task.
Consider a glove with a thick material such as leather when dealing with roses or any other thorny plant.  Rose gauntlets are specially made to protect hands and fingers from rose thorns. These gloves often have long sleeves that also protect the arms from punctures.
General all purpose leather gloves provide more protection than cotton at a slightly higher cost, these gloves are excellent for all that raking and shoveling – protection from blisters, but they are not suitable for jobs that require getting your hands wet and dirty.
A tight fitting cotton gloves is an excellent choice for light duty gardening such as planting seeds, deadheading and tinkering about in dry soil.
